Cisco reveals VPN security holes
Cisco Systems Inc. Tuesday warned users of vulnerabilities in some of its VPN (virtual private network) products that could make it easier for hackers to get into secured networks or carry out DOS (denial of service) attacks.
The company issued an advisory that detailed 13 vulnerabilities that could affect Cisco VPN 3000 series concentrators. Those devices are designed to provide secure remote access to enterprise resources over public networks.
The potential problems were uncovered by customers and through internal development testing, and Cisco is not aware of any malicious use or public announcement of the vulnerabilities, according to the advisory.
The advisory can be found at http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/vpn3k-multiple-vuln-pub.shtml. It contains links to software patches on Cisco's Web site and instructions for all types of customers to get the fixes.
